VIDEO: Firefighters rushed to a fire that broke out in a Providence scrap metal yard Wednesday night. Crews responded to the scene at Rhode Island Recycled Metals off Allens Avenue around 11:30 p.m. A thick plume of black smoke was seen billowing over I-95 due to a 100-foot by 100-foot scrap pile on fire, according to Silva. Crews are still on scene with staff from the company, Silva said, where they will be breaking apart the pile to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management was called to the scene and determined water run off and air pollution are not a concern. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is unknown.
