Nine people were rushed to the hospital Thursday after a chemical exposure in Warwick.
Several stores were forced to evacuate amid a police and fire response. Warwick's fire chief said it was likely a mix of cleaning chemicals that entered through the sewer system causing people to become nauseated and vomit.
It all started at Oak Street Health in a shopping center off Quaker Lane. "This is not a typical day," said Nancy Donnelly, a fitness instructor.
Donnelly was teaching a fitness class that was abruptly evacuated.
"I was teaching a class and the alarms went off," she said. "When we came outside, they were asking if everybody felt OK. I felt fine. They just wanted to make sure everybody was feeling OK." Firefighters said they were called to Oak Street Health at about 10:30 p.m. as several people reported becoming nauseous inside the business.
