Three residents were brought to the hospital after a fire broke out inside a Coventry apartment building Monday night.
Crews responding to the Glenwood Park Apartments on Tiogue Avenue around 9:30 p.m. found heavy flames coming from the first floor of the building.
Most of the residents of the 12 units got out safely, but two had to be rescued by firefighters. Those residents were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and a third resident was also transported to be checked out.
Coventry Fire Chief Frank Brown told 12 News they are expected to be OK, as their injuries are not life-threatening.
About 30 people are now without a home, according to Brown, and more than a dozen were brought to Coventry’s Community Center where they were connected with the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
