VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire at a Coventry apartment complex that sent three people to the hospital was caused by an e-scooter battery. Firefighters responded to Tiogue Avenue just after 9:30 p.m Monday. The fire chief told NBC 10 News that the fire stemmed from someone using the wrong charger on an e-scooter. Parts of the lithium-ion battery exploded onto the floor. Fire Chief Frank Brown of Coventry's Hopkins Hill Fire District said the battery had been charging for about six hours on the wrong charger. Flames could be seen shooting through the windows and smoke taking over the building. Neighbors said it was a scary situation with people still inside. Firefighters had to pull two residents through a window and onto a ladder to safety.
