The Central Falls Fire Department was in desperate need of a new fire engine, and on Monday, it finally got one. The city celebrated the arrival of the new truck in a ceremony attended by state and local leaders. After its three-decade-old engine failed annual testing, the city was forced to rely on just two engines. One of those two trucks is also decades old and prone to breaking down, according to the city. With the added stress of being over-used, officials said the situation was becoming a “liability.” Central Falls’ new fire engine will help the department respond to the thousands of calls it receives every year. “This will ensure that the firefighters will have a piece of equipment that will help them deliver the type of quality service they provide on a daily basis,” Central Falls Fire Chief Scott Mello said.
