VIDEO: First responders from multiple communities battled a large brush fire in Charlestown on Wednesday. At last check, the Richmond Carolina fire chief said he believes about 10 acres burned along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. Emergency crews from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Amtrak, and about six surrounding departments responded to the brush fire. About 50 firefighters worked nonstop in tough terrain. The location is behind a large gravel pit, making access very difficult. The fire chiefs in Charlestown and Richmond, who were leading the charge, explained why we could be seeing more brush fires this week. “We have had windy days. It only takes a couple of days of drying, and you’re right back in the fire season,” said Chief Scott Barber of the Richmond Carolina Fire District.
