A fire hit a homeless encampment off of North Main Street in Providence on Wednesday. One woman was injured with burns to her legs. She was treated by the Providence Fire Department, but refused to be taken to the hospital. According to public safety personnel who responded, the fire occurred a little after 5:20 PM at the encampment located at the corner of Nashua Street and Smithfield Avenue. Emergency personnel who responded reported that the smell of petroleum was detected. GoLocal has learned that the Providence Fire Department is investigating the incident as a possible arson case.
