Legislation, sponsored by State Sen. Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro), raising the amount of supplemental pay received by professional fire fighters and police officers, advanced in the Tennessee Senate last week. Senate Bill 793 raises the annual supplement for the successful completion of at least 40 hours of in-service training from $600 to $800. The bill is part of Gov. Bill Lee’s legislative package and is funded in the proposed budget he submitted to the General Assembly Monday night last week. The legislation was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. “Our police and firefighters put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and in-service training is essential to help them perform in very difficult situations,” said Reeves. “I am very pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor a bill to help them by raising their in-service training supplement.”
