The Jackson Fire Department squelched a fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday near the North Acres neighborhood on North Highland Avenue, closing all lanes of traffic for several hours.
The fire started around 4 p.m. at 1725 North Highland, according to a witness at the scene.
Jackson Fire Battalion chief Russell Downen said the fire took several hours to contain due to high heat conditions and the construction of the home.
"For the issues we had, they've done a great job because the house is still standing," he said.
The fire started in the home's attic. An investigation into the fire's cause will begin Friday.
