To raise public awareness of the critical role building codes play in ensuring fire and life safety, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has declared May 2021 as Building Safety Month. In conjunction with the gubernatorial proclamation, the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office are participating in the 41st annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council (ICC), its members and partners to promote building safety. This year’s campaign, “Prevent, Prepare, Protect. Building Codes Save,” raises awareness about the importance of building codes in ensuring safety in the spaces in which we live, work, learn and play. Created by the ICC, Building Safety Month is an international campaign designed to raise awareness about the importance of code adoption and celebrate the work of state and local codes inspectors who help ensure the safety of communities.
