VIDEO: The Cumberland Gap Volunteer Fire Department is made up entirely by college students from Lincoln Memorial University. “Our fire department fully consists of graduate students from LMU-DCOM medical students and also a few students from LMU Vet Med program,” Cumberland Gap VFD Chief Jordan Jones said. Jones, who is also an LMU medical student, told us students started to join the department to address staffing issues. “Around 2014, the students saw a need for more firefighters in the area,” Jones said. “The department didn’t have any members responding. If they did, it was very low number. So they decided to come in here and revamp the department a little bit.” Assistant Chief Jacob Sheehan is also a medical student at LMU.
