After a bond approval for Benton County Fire District #4, the money is making some headway for a new station. Currently a piece of property in West Richland is in escrow and the district is also waiting on a text amendment. Two acres of land near Van Giesen Street and Keene Road is expected to be sold by the Port of Kennewick. The cost--$10,000. "It will allow us to put a public building on this facility and that should be done sometime by about the middle to the end of January 2019," said Chief Bill Whealan with Benton County Fire District #4. "Then we have one final other little step which is consolidate the two acres here cause they're two one acre parcels to consolidate so we can put the fire station on top of that land." The $7.5 million bond was passed in August. It will equip the new fire station. Whealan also plans on replacing three fire engines that are pass their usable lives.
