No sprinklers. Rodents. A lack of exits. These are just some of the reasons Kittitas Valley Fire Chief John Sinclair says his firefighters are desperate for a new fire station. "The big issue is that the living quarters for the firefighters started its serviceable life as a livestock sales yard. It then went to an auction house, and then it was a private residence," said Sinclair. He says they’ve made do for 20 years, and now it’s time to move on. And after two failed attempts in the past to get the community to help fund the project, they’ve decided to go through county commissioners. If at least three of them approve a commissioner-voted bond, the fire district will pay for the bond out of their own operating budget, but they’ll have to make cuts elsewhere.
