Oh no, here we go again? Not quite... In what is seemingly becoming an August ritual in the Pacific Northwest, our typical blue skies are turning a bit hazy, thanks to some wildfire smoke blowing through the area. Luckily, it's nowhere near as intense or thick as the episodes of the past two summers, and air quality near the surface around the region remains relatively good. The worst of the fires are burning in Siberia, where almost 12,000 square miles are ablaze, sending thick smoke across roughly 800 cities in northeastern Russia, including Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Chita. Upper level winds have carried some of that smoke across the Pacific Ocean and into North America, says NASA, covering parts of Alaska and Canada in addition to our neck of the woods.
