The City of Chehalis is in the early stages of acquiring an unidentified parcel of land at the intersection of Chamber of Commerce Way and State Avenue for a new fire station, according to City Manager Jill Anderson and Fire Chief Ken Cardinale. Anderson stated during a city council meeting Monday that an appraisal has been ordered and the owner of the site is interested in selling the property. Details such as a specific address and asking price were not provided during the public portion of Monday’s meeting, but were to be discussed during an executive session later that evening. Anderson did not return a call seeking further comment prior to press time. The Chehalis Fire Department has been operating out of the Lewis County Fire District 6 station on Jackson highway for more than a year following accidental asbestos contamination at the station in downtown Chehalis.
