Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham will brief the Yakima City Council on Tuesday on efforts to unite several area fire departments under a single authority.
A copy of Markham’s report indicates that there is little interest in forming a regional fire authority, something officials last looked at in 2011.
In the report, Markham indicated that of six fire districts next to Yakima, only West Valley Fire Department was willing to listen to a proposal, while the Fruitvale and Broadway fire districts would follow Yakima’s lead but had no equipment or resources to combine into a regional fire service.
