West Thurston Regional Fire Authority Personnel responded to two serious house fires in Rochester over the weekend — with the one likely starting from a build-up of lint and debris in a clothing dryer and vent along with combustible materials near the vent pipe. No serious injuries were reported during either fire, according to posts from the fire department on social media. Personnel from West Thurston Fire did not return a request for comment prior to press time. At 7 p.m. Saturday, Firefighters responded to the 17800 block of Sargent Road Southwest to find a fire coming from the house’s attic and garage. People and dogs living inside the house were able to make it outside. First responders successfully located and put out the fire, but the house sustained serious damage throughout. One occupant and one firefighter received medical evaluation and were released at the scene. Investigators determined the fire was caused by lint buildup and improper storage of combustible materials.
