The Cold Creek Fire will have cost nearly $1 million once put out -- but a fire official says it could have been worse.
By 2 p.m. Monday, the fire -- which has burned an estimated 41,920 acres on the Hanford Reach National Monument since Thursday afternoon -- was about 90% contained, said Capt. Ron Fryer with the Southeast Washington Incident Management Team.
Fryer said the incident command team has been dissolved and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has once again taken control of firefighting efforts.
"We were pretty lucky with this one," Fryer said. "It helped that the first attack crews were pretty aggressive with their approach and were able to catch it when it jumped the highway."
