Firefighters are battling a 3,000-acre blaze several miles north of Selah, according to Yakima Valley Emergency Management. The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon.
Fire officials have been unable to determine the cause but believe it may have begun during the lightning storm Tuesday night.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, firefighters had been unable to contain the fire, which is burning on L.T. Murray Wildlife Refuge land.
It started north of Roza Creek and is moving south towards Buffalo Creek Road in Selah.
A level 2 evacuation notice is in effect for some areas near the fire.
Air resources have been mobilized.
