The Left Hand Fire, burning roughly 17 miles northwest of Naches, more than doubled in size Saturday. Strong winds drove the fire’s southern and eastern flanks. Firefighters had success in establishing containment lines on the west flank to keep it on the ridge above the State Route 410 corridor. A Sunday morning update from the U.S. Forest Service estimates the fire is now 2,063 acres, at a cost of around $1.5 million. 452 personnel have been assigned to combat the blaze. Lighter winds forecast for late Sunday should help crews check the fire’s advance. Firefighters, with aircraft support, are continuing to focus on building both direct and indirect fireline. A structure protection group will continue to do assessments and provide protection to threatened structures. A Level Three evacuation notice has been issued to 22 residences in the Rock Creek drainage. Level Two notices remain in effect for the 250 residences along both sides of Sr 410 from the Fire District 14 station to Cliffdell.
