A forest fire erupted over the weekend in a remote area of Chelan County. The Devore Creek Fire is burning in heavy timber three air miles southwest of Stehekin in the Glacier Peak Wilderness at an elevation of approximately 8,000 feet. According to fire officials, the blaze has consumed roughly 150 acres as of Monday morning. It is not currently threatening any structures but has forced the closure of several trails in the vicinity, including Devore Creek Trail #1244, Company Creek Trail #1243, and Ten Mile Creek Trail #2141. In spite of the fire’s close proximity to Stehekin, air quality in the small, remote town is listed as good. The wildfire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike on July 23 which smoldered before fully igniting. It was initially reported in the late afternoon last Friday.
