A tow truck that broke down and struck sparks along Highway 2 near Cashmere was the cause of a small brushfire that closed one lane of travel Monday morning. Washington State Patrol troopers said the 9:43 a.m. fire started near milepost 109, just west of Cashmere near the foot of Peshastin Pinnacles State Park. Authorities expected the right-hand lane of westbound Highway 2 to remain closed for at least an hour to allow firefighting efforts. The fire caught in dry grass and brush along the shoulder. Flames were hemmed in by a frontage road and orchard above, and the fire's spread was quickly contained by local fire districts.
