The Vancouver Fire Department says someone broke a window to rescue a young boy from a burning home Wednesday morning.
Officials say the residential fire was in the Five Corners area of Vancouver, in the 9000 block of Northeast 91st Street, at around 4:30 a.m.
Fire officials say a 14-year-old girl called 911 to report the fire. The caller said people were evacuating, but there was still a child in a bedroom asleep. Before crews arrived at the scene, a 911 dispatcher directed the homeowners to break the window and get the 10-year-old boy out of the room.
“From the volume of the fire that we had showing when we first arrived, I don’t know where the bedroom was exactly. I haven’t had a chance to find out yet, but it sounds like that child would have been in danger of being suffocated or burned, had they not been able to get the child out," said Vancouver Fire Department Cpt. David James.
