The city of Burlington will say goodbye to its fire chief at the end of March. After nearly three years with the Burlington Fire Department, Levon Yengoyan is moving on to serve as chief for Camano Island Fire & Rescue. The Camano Island resident said the move is bittersweet, as he has loved serving the people of Burlington. Yengoyan joined the Burlington department in June 2016 after spending close to two decades with Camano Island Fire & Rescue — 12 years of which he served as assistant chief. Mayor Steve Sexton said Yengoyan pushed the city’s fire department to do the best it could every day. “The most crucial thing Levon has done is establish a culture in our fire department that is second to none,” he said. “It’s a completely different fire department than it was.” Moving forward, Sexton said the goal is to find a new fire chief who can maintain that culture of commitment.
