The Ephrata Fire Department has three new lieutenants.
EFD veterans Maxwell Yoder, Colleen Winski and Chandler Gribble all received lieutenants badges during a short pinning ceremony at Wednesday night’s regular meeting of the Ephrata City Council.
“Each shift will now have a captain and a lieutenant,” said EFD Chief Jeremy Burns.
The move follows a review by risk analysis firm Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau (WSRB), which found the EFD “did not have enough supervisors” in relation to the line firefighters, Burns said.
The EFD has 26 firefighters — two career staff and 24 volunteers who are paid a stipend for their service. The lieutenants will assist the shift captains, maintain schedules, mentor firefighters and oversee training, Burns said.
