Firefighters managed to save a man's pet cat from their burning home in Carnation Thursday afternoon. The homeowner was napping just before 2 p.m. when he awakened by his dog barking and noticed a heavy smoke building in his home just off SR-203 near Stillwater Hill. He managed to get out and call for help. Firefighters from several nearby agencies arrived to find smoke billowing from the basement and were told from the homeowner that everyone was out except his cat. A search inside the home discovered the cat unconscious in one of the rooms. Firefighters quickly gave the cat oxygen and rushed the feline to a local veterinarian hospital. Officials report the cat was alert and breathing when it arrived at the hospital and was being treated for potential lung damage due to heavy smoke.
