PHOTOS: Crews contained a Sunnyslope brush fire to a small area despite high winds Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 1:52 p.m. on the 500 block of Lower Sunnyslope Road and threatened at least one home. It damaged or destroyed two cherry trees, at least two vehicles and a lawnmower.
It's unclear how the fire started, said Battalion Chief Andy Davidson with Chelan County Fire District 1. "We had when we arrived a significant amount of fire and winds coming from the west," Davidson said.
He added, "The main problem in this neighborhood is lack of water. There's no fire hydrants anywhere close so we ordered as many tenders as we could."
About 25 firefighters responded, including a pair of 5,000-gallon water tenders from Chelan County Fire District 6 in Monitor.
