Multiple fire agencies responded to a second-alarm fire at the Dolco Packing plant on Columbia Street. Chelan County Fire District 1 Chief Brian Brett says the blaze was reported around 8:45 p.m. and was quickly upgraded to a commercial fire. “When units arrived, we did have product on fire in Building 9 and Dolco. We have had two or three fires here in the past. Dolco has an excellent fire brigade. They were able to immediately notify us and direct us to where the problem was.” Brett says there was minimal damage to the building, as the fire was burning in rolls of polystyrene that was stacked approximately 30 feet high. The smoke layer was from the floor to the ceiling and required coordination in the suppression efforts with letting air into the building. Brett says they received assistance from Entiat, Orondo, Leavenworth, Cashmere, Chelan Fire 6 and Douglas County Fire 2.
