Firefighters were able to quickly put out a brush fire that could have potentially been catastrophic on Monday afternoon. Crews received the call around 1:30 p.m. to a home on W 134 PR in Prosser. When they arrived, the fire was fast-spreading uphill heading towards a large field. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, and West Benton Fire Chief Seth Johnson said if it had entered into a nearby field, it could have grown much larger and been more catastrophic. Johnson said the fire was accidentally started by an 84-year-old man who was fixing a tractor. No one was injured and only about two acres of land was damaged.
