Fire officials say another 1,000 tons of hay was lost to fire Tuesday morning south of Ephrata. Grant County Fire Marshal Bruce Gribble says fire crews were summoned to the area of Rd E NW near Rd 5 NW about one mile west of Dodson Rd. Gribble could confirm that the fire was intentionally set by a “handheld device” but the person responsible is still a mystery. Additionally, Gribble says the haystack fire last Friday in the 8400 block of Martin Rd. near Winchester was also intentionally set by an unknown handheld incendiary item. “Ridiculous,” was the word used by Gribble to describe the recent string of fires. Tuesday’s blaze was the county’s 15th haystack fire this year.
