Inspired by tragedy in another city, Bleyhl Co-Op donated 60 smoke alarms to the Pasco Fire Department. They read a news article about two children dying in a Prosser mobile home fire this year. No smoke alarms were inside, a tragedy the store wants to prevent. "If we can help support them, then they'll help protect our community because we don't want any more lives lost for something that could be fixed with a $7 smoke alarm," said Danielle Marshall, Bleyhl's senior Store Manager. Pasco firefighter Ben Shearer has been installing smoke alarms for the department for years, hoping to save lives and prevent tragedies. The deaths didn't happen in their city, Marshall said it's important to teach others about the importance of smoke detectors.
