Firefighters worked to douse a blaze burning a homeless encampment in Olympia Thursday morning.
The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. in the 1400 block of Wheeler Ave. SE, according to Olympia Fire. A Tumwater firefighting crew noticed the flames while driving along I-5 and called it in.
An Olympia fire engine arrived on the scene to find extensive flames burning a non-sanctioned camp, said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Buchanan with Olympia Fire.
"The fire was extinguished fairly quickly," Buchanan said.
No one was hurt.
Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire, but Buchanan says it doesn't appear to have been intentionally set.
