An out-of-control brush fire killed a dog and gutted several vehicles just before 2:30 p.m. on Monday near Chelan. At about 2:28 p.m., Chelan Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a reported brush fire approximately 1 ¼ mile up Washington Creek. Firefighters from various jurisdictions including a helicopter were dispatched to assist. Crews arrived to find multiple vehicles on fire and noticed the flames creeping uphill. At least three RV’s, eight vehicles, one tractor and multiple piles of miscellaneous items caught fire. The fire displaced four people who were living in the RVs and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The fire was contained to 9.5 acres and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
