A small wildfire has been spotted burning in the wilderness of Olympic National Park, according to National Park officials.
The fire, so far burning just 2 acres, is smoldering on the southern slope of Mt. Dana, about 21 miles south of Port Angeles.
Officials said they first got word of the fire on Saturday following days of lightning strikes over the mountains last week.
" The fire is smoldering and creeping in Subalpine Fir with pockets of heavy forest debris at an elevation of 4,400 feet," national park officials wrote.
Their plan is to just monitor the fire as it so far does not pose any threat to people or structures and would be dangerous for firefighters to fight in steep, rugged terrain.
"The National Park Service is mandated to preserve resources such as plants and animals, along with the natural processes that sustain them; including fire," park officials said.
