Six firefighters from the Yakima City Fire Department participated in the Portland Stairclimb Challenge this weekend to raise funds to fight against cystic fibrosis. Firefighters from across the northwest raced up 40 floors and 800 steps of the U.S. Bancorp Tower in full gear. This year, the Yakima firefighters raised just over $1,000 that will go toward research to find a cure for cystic fibrosis, care and education programs. One of the firefighters who participated, Mark Buskas, said this is their second year doing the stair climb, and they're looking to make it an annual tradition. "Climbing these stairs is just minor in comparison to what the people with cystic fibrosis are going through," said Buskas. "So anything we can do to raise any money to help make their days a little bit easier and hopefully find a cure or treatment that makes their life easier."
