The private company responsible for the Navy’s firefighting training could be without a home next month when its lease at the Kitsap Readiness Center expires.
WRG Fire Training Simulation Services — which provides maritime firefighter and damage control training for Navy personnel on all the ships in Bremerton and Everett, as well as the Coast Guard — has been operating out of the Kitsap Readiness Center on Carver Street for the last five years.
Once its lease expires June 30, WRG will need to move its training operations elsewhere. But the company’s proposal to build a new training facility just down the road from the Readiness Center — on land that abuts several sensitive wetland areas — can’t move forward without a special permit from the city.
“The Navy needs to know that we will have a place to train the sailors, that’s why we’ve been trying to get these properties built,” WRG training coordinator Jerry Daniels said.
