A new ambulance is on the frontlines of Orcas Island Fire and Rescue’s emergency response fleet. Originally slated to roll out early this year, getting the ambulance outfitted and ready for service was delayed due to COVID-19.
After battling issues with aging vehicles, repeated mechanical failures and increasingly costly repairs, the agency was in desperate need of a new and reliable ambulance. OIFR began the process of purchasing a new ambulance in late 2018 with identifying the need, outlining a budget, completing the bidding process, and designing the apparatus to fit the needs of future patients who would inevitably be transported in their greatest time of need.
“We are happy to provide the community with a new ambulance which will serve our residents and visitors for many years to come,” shared Orcas Fire Chief Scott Williams.
