75 people displaced, 30 units damaged in Tacoma apartment fire

Dozens of people are displaced after a fire at a Tacoma apartment complex Monday morning. The Red Cross reported 75 people were forced out of their homes and 30 units were damaged at the Forest Hill Village Apartments off of South Tyler Street. The Disaster Action Team and volunteers from the South Puget Sound and Olympics chapter are working with individuals impacted to provide immediate assistance, including emergency shelter and comfort items, according to a press release. Tacoma fire crews responded to the complex around 1:20 a.m. Monday. The roof collapsed in on three units at the complex. Crews called for backup about 20 minutes into fighting the fire. In total, 20 crews responded to the incident. Two people sustained minor injuries.
