S.E. Thurston Fire Authority put out an 8-acre brush fire in the 9500 block of Bridge Road on Sunday, Aug. 1.
Crews were dispatched to the scene of the fire at 5:08 p.m. and cleared the area by about 7:30 p.m.
A few small sheds and a fifth-wheel RV were destroyed in the fire, said Mark King, S.E. Thurston Fire Authority chief, but other structures and homes in the area were kept safe.
A Department of Natural Resources helicopter came in handy as it dumped water from above on the blaze as it neared more structures, threatening local livelihoods, King said. Bald Hills, East Olympia, South Thurston, and Lacey fire departments assisted in the effort.
“Based on the aerial views I got, the crews did an outstanding job,” King said.
