Two firefighters injured fighting large apartment fire in Spokane Valley

A large fire broke out at an apartment complex at 12200 East Maxwell Avenue in the Spokane Valley on Thursday afternoon. Fire officials say the fire started on the 3rd floor of the building, collapsing part of the roof and injuring two firefighters. The firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A dog and a cat were rescued and there are no reports of injuries to any residents from the fire. SVFD says six apartment units were affected by the fire and two of the apartment units were burned entirely. The Red Cross has been notified to assist the displaced families. A total of 30 first responder units responded to the fire including 2 ladder trucks, several engines, Chief Officers, and assistance from the Sheriff’s Office for traffic and help with crowd control. Help also was received from the City of Spokane.
