Crews with the Bureau of Land Management confirm the Yakima Canyon is out after burning 40 acres. Peter Trask with BLM says it’s unclear what first sparked the fire, but that hot air pushed the fire up the slopes of the canyon as it fanned out in a V-shape. He says the lighter winds today were a boon for firefighters and it didn't spread as fast as it might have on another day. BLM, DNR, and the US Forest Service were involved in fighting the fire. Two helicopters were called in to assist in stopping the spread of the wildfire. No structures were damaged and no one was injured.
