A motorcyclist was killed in a fiery crash overnight near Big Lake in Skagit County, the Washington State Patrol reports. Troopers and firefighters responded to the scene, along State Route 9 near West Big Lake Boulevard, at about 10:05 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a crash and fire. The motorcycle had crashed into a tree and erupted into flames. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No other information was immediately available about him. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. A preliminary investigation found that the motorcyclist was heading south on SR-9 then veered into the northbound lane and off the road into the tree. The highway closed at the scene during the cleanup and investigation of the crash but has since reopened.
