Spokane Police shot and killed one person while assisting the Spokane Fire Department with a house fire Sunday night. SPD says it happened just before 10:00 p.m. near the corner of West Dean Ave. and North Oak St. According to SPD, a neighbor called 911 to report that a fire broke out at a home. The caller also said they heard someone screaming. When fire crews and police officers arrived, they safely removed multiple people from the home. SPD says officers learned that the fire was a possible arson and that the person of interest was unaccounted for. When officers began interviewing the people removed from the home, police say one person was not cooperative and started walking away. As officers attempted to detain the man, SPD says he fired a gun. At least two officers returned fire, shooting the man.
