According to Mark Buskas, the Vice President of the Yakima Firefighters Association, firefighters received multiple calls at 5:15 a.m. this morning from drivers on I-82 about a fire at McGuire Park in Yakima.
Responders arrived to find the play structure fully consumed by flames and requested additional engines arrive to help extinguish the blaze. "It appears that the north side of the entry, the play structure is a total loss, said Buskas. "Crews were able to save the play structure south of the entrance. The majority of the fence around it has been burned completely or damaged significantly."
The fire caused approximately $350,000 in damages. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
