VIDEO: The first Colorado all-women wildland firefighting crew is set to start this May in the Grand Valley. The BLM is partnering with Western Colorado Conservation Corps to get more women involved in a male-dominated field.
"I think it just goes with the stigma that women are weak, and all that stuff, but it's just not true,” said Sadie Forsythe, future female wildland firefighter. “We're going to show people that by fighting some fires.”
The women will get their wildland firefighting credentials, and work on projects from May through September. The crew will be filled with nine women. Seven spots are already taken.
