Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and both the Days Creek and Canyonville–South Umpqua Rural Fire Departments responded to a grass fire Tuesday afternoon near the 9500 block of Tiller–Trail Highway.
Upon arrival around 4:15 p.m., firefighters reported a slow-moving grass fire that was approximately 1/2 acre in size.
The incident, named the Green Springs Fire, was quickly contained, officials said.
A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was powerline related, DFPA said. The Green Springs Fire is the 46th wildland fire suppressed by DFPA this year, burning roughly 315 acres.
"Both the number of fires and acres burned so far in 2021 are above DFPA’s 10-year average for the same time period, which is 15 fires burning about 85 acres," DFPA reports.
