Crews continue to patrol the 86-acre Ptarmigan Fire that started Sept. 27 near Silverthorne. The Summit County Sheriff's Office lifted all pre-evacuation orders and road closures related to the fire on Oct. 4. That included the areas of Hamilton Creek, Angler Mountain, South 40 and Daley Ranch. Fire personnel said the fire is 75% contained as of Tuesday. They said firefighters have built a containment line around the fire, but do not yet consider parts of the north and east flank fully contained. They said this area has a lot of dead and downed trees, making it difficult for firefighters to find heat on the ground, as well as to effectively and safely finish mop-up. Firefighters said the fire has not grown in two weeks, and no heat or smoke has been detected recently, however, there's still potential for fire activity in the heavy fuels until rain or snow can fully saturate the area.
