The weather conditions in New Hampshire may have been wet recently, but fire officials are warning about an increased risk of wildfires.
The weather has been snowy and wet, but the New Hampshire Forest Protection Bureau said that the state has a higher risk of wildfires in April. "We went out to one yesterday, but that was due to an electrical malfunction on a pole," said Concord Fire Deputy Chief Mark Hebert.
Chief Steven Sherman, of the Forest Protection Bureau, said without leaves on trees yet, the forest floor receives direct sunlight and can dry out quickly. "Not everyone really pays attention or keeps track of when things are getting dry or what the forest fuels look like," Sherman said. Typically in April, periods of very dry weather are paired with low humidity and warmer temperatures, which creates a higher risk of wildfires.
