Coon Creek Fire & Rescue is hoping the generosity of people in the Coulee Region continues to shine as they reach out to the public to fulfill a financial challenge, which will allow the organization to purchase a new first responder vehicle. Chief Russ Cornford said over the past three years of fundraising the organization has already raise $40,000 toward the vehicle purchase price of $80,000. Then on Oct. 10, while Cornford was at the fire station, a man, who wishes to remain anonymous, entered the building and offered to contribute $20,000 toward the remaining funds needed to purchase the new vehicle. The only condition the donor placed on the gift was that the public would step up and raise the remaining $20,000 needed to fund the vehicle purchase. Cornford said he was flabbergasted by the offer and has been going out of his way to ensure that the word gets out to the general public. “This is a wonderful gift and I believe the generosity of the area will shine through to help us meet the challenge we have been presented with,” Cornford said. “We cover a large service area and are in desperate need a new vehicle. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I pray we can fulfill our end of the challenge in a timely fashion.”
