The Sun Prairie Fire Department announced that SPFD Fire Inspector Mark Mlekush has been selected as this year’s Fire Inspector of the Year by the Wisconsin State Fire Inspector Association. Mlekush has been the lead inspector for the department for over seven years and has completed 17,741 inspections. He took a department that had been outsourced and built a successful internal program. Fire Chief Chris Garrison said Mlekush has seen the department through many changes including taking on Firefighting and Apparatus Engineer responsibilities during the past four years while continuing to keep up to date with a growing inspection load. This includes adding another inspector overseen by Mlekush. “Along with the large volume of required fire inspections, our inspectors are required to respond to all emergencies while on duty,” Garrison added. “In doing so, they are also required to maintain the same level of operational training as the rest of the department.”
